Editorial Guidelines
How our tyre guides are researched, written and checked. Last updated 29 June 2026.
Tyres HQ exists to give UK drivers clear, honest answers about their tyres. These guidelines set out how our guides and reviews are put together, who is responsible for them, and the standards we hold every page to. They apply to everything published on the site.
Who writes and checks our guides
Every guide is checked by two people before it is published, and it names both. First, the subject specialist best placed to judge it reviews the advice, whether that is a working tyre fitter, our garage owner, a qualified MOT tester or a tyre data analyst. Then our managing editor gives it a final fact-check. You can read about the full team on the team behind Tyres HQ, and each writer and reviewer has their own profile listing the guides they are responsible for.
Writers cover the areas they know best. The subject specialist checks the advice against what really happens in the workshop and on the road, and the managing editor confirms every fact, figure and tyre size against its source. Nothing goes live until both are satisfied.
How we research
Our guides draw on a mix of hands-on experience, official UK sources and independent testing. For anything to do with the law, safety or the MOT, we work from primary sources such as GOV.UK, the DVSA and TyreSafe. For tyre performance and rankings, we rely on published independent tests from established testers, and we name the test and the year so you can weigh it for yourself.
We do not invent test scores, ratings or figures. Where a number matters, it comes from a named source or it does not appear at all.
How we review tyres
Our tyre reviews are based on published independent test results and real fitting experience, not on a single drive or a manufacturer's own claims. Where we recommend a tyre, we explain what it is good at and where a different tyre would suit you better. We never present a tyre as the right choice for everyone when it is not.
You can read the full method on how we review tyres.
Accuracy and sources
We aim to be the clearest and most accurate answer to the question a guide sets out to answer. Claims that carry safety or legal weight are sourced. Tyre sizes shown for specific vehicles are common fitments to help you understand your options, and we always tell you to confirm your own size from the sidewall, the door placard or your V5C before buying. We never fabricate a tyre size we cannot stand behind.
Tyres, vehicles, laws and prices change. Our guidance is general information, not a substitute for a professional inspection of your own vehicle.
How we keep guides up to date
Guides are reviewed and updated as standards, tests and products change. Each guide shows when it was last updated. If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, we want to know, see our corrections policy.
Independence
Our recommendations are based on what suits the driver, not on commercial relationships. Tyres.co.uk is our fulfilment partner, and we explain exactly what that means and how it affects our links on our affiliate and fulfilment disclosure. No brand can pay to be recommended, to score better, or to change what a guide says.
If a guide cannot honestly recommend something, it says so.
